In a world of high adventure and fantasy, the heroes always seem to escape death by the skin of their teeth. In order to reduce the Suspension of Disbelief, where a character dies only to reappear moments later in the local church, the ability for them to "Escape Death" is used by the template instead.

Implementation
These rules take effect after the character has completed the Player death rules.
Check to see if escaping death
While in the void, a character is given a secret opportunity to determine if they have somehow miraculously escaped death. This check is a combination of several factors:
| Factor | Description | Effect |
| Character level | Those of lower level tend to die more frequently and thus have a greater chance of being saved automatically | Base chance 41% - Character Level |
| Class | Certain classes tend to die more frequently due to a lack of combat abilities and thus gain a small bonus | Bonus between 0% to 20% |
| Lucky/Unlucky | Some characters are just naturally lucky or unlucky | +/-10% |
If they succeed this check then an Escaping death template is randomly selected based on the situation of their death and they are transported there to continue their adventure. Failing this check leaves them to wander the void until their spirit chooses what path to take.
Character Wanders the void
The character is unfortunate enough not to have been miraculously saved and continues to wander the void.
From here they have 3 choices available to them:
- Continue to walk the void in the hope that someone finds their body and resurrects them
- Spend 1 character point and trigger their own escaping death event
- Let go of their grip on life and allow their soul to continue on to the outer planes (Retiring a character)
