Introduction
One of the major problems that has always plagued any form of online gaming has been the way in which players interact with each other through their characters. The purpose of a computer game is for those who play it to enjoy themselves and it is not fair for someone to seek their own enjoyment at the expense of others. Those who have no compunction against griefing or actively seeking to single out other players often have a multitude of excuses or reasons for why they do it, all of which appear to skirt dangerously close to breaking the rules.
By the same token, enjoyment is often derived from the competition or contest that is generated between two players and it is desirable to preserve this in a way that allows for a fair and equal interaction.
Thus the Character vs Character Sub-system is designed to provide a means to control how characters interact with each other in a way that maintains a balance and fairness to all players, while not at the other end of the spectrum being completely authoritarian and denying players the opportunity to interact and compete.
